​As a human being, I strongly value how I can connect with my students. Some of the most important traits to foster human connection include empathy, understanding, and patience. Growing up is hard, and it shouldn’t be made harder by a teacher who is not dedicated to being the best version of themselves as a music educator and as a human being. I am in no way saying that there won’t be bad days - because there will be. Bad days are inevitable. However, more important than the bad days themselves is how we choose to get through them. My students and I will get through the bad days together, and enjoy the journey. Some of my most fond memories from my high school band experiences did not happen during the years when we won in our class at every competition. Rather, my extremely fond memories are the years where we had struggles, but we pushed through them and came out better on the other side. Through it all, my high school band director was there, committed to teaching us music, but uplifting us and supporting us all along the way. With that being said, in my classroom, students will see an educator who is committed to being more than just a music teacher - they will see a person who guides them on how to be a better human, because tutti is learning how to be the best version of ourselves. My classroom will be a room where students learn, grow, and excel because of music - and because of music, they will learn, grow, and excel in life.
